Rohit Sharma’s Reaction Speaks Volumes
Rohit Sharma’s reaction when Virat Kohli hit his 52nd ODI century said everything without words.
Remember those days when people kept guessing about a rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma? Kohli always denied it, and even if there was any small tension back then, it’s completely gone now. Today, both of them are pillars of Indian cricket, and no one seems happier for each other than Rohit and Virat - the Ro-Ko duo.
That’s why the cameras caught Rohit’s genuine reaction when Kohli reached his 52nd ODI century during the first ODI against South Africa at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday. His expression alone showed the bond they share.
Just like Kohli guided Marci Jansen to a boundary for his third hundred at the stadium, Rohit, watching from the dressing room, was visibly excited and couldn’t hide his joy seeing his teammate shine. The pair had put together a 136-run partnership - their 20th century-plus stand in ODIs. Rohit clapped enthusiastically, probably muttering a few playful words, while Kohli enjoyed the cheers from the Ranchi crowd. With this 52nd century, Kohli now holds the record for the most centuries by a batter in a single format, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 51 Test hundreds.
Rohit had plenty to celebrate beyond Kohli’s century. The former India captain also spent some time at the crease, scoring a solid 57. During his innings, he broke Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi’s record for the most sixes in ODI cricket, hitting the 352nd six of his career to take the top spot. This marked Rohit’s third 50-plus score in four innings, and he might have scored consecutive centuries if not for a low delivery from Marco Jansen.
The Buzz Around Ro-Ko’s Future
There’s been a lot of talk about Kohli and Rohit and what lies ahead for them before the 2027 World Cup. With both having retired from T20Is and Tests, ODIs are their main stage. While they’re determined to stay in the team for South Africa in 22 months, selectors might have other plans because of their age. But as long as they keep performing and scoring runs, it’s impossible to bench these two legends.
