Abhishek Sharma makes history in ICC T20I rankings

Abhishek Sharma stays at No.1 in the ICC rankings and becomes the first player ever to touch 931 rating points.

Abhishek Sharma’s dream run at the Asia Cup, where he smashed 314 runs in seven games and won the Player of the Tournament award, has taken him to new heights. The stylish left-hander remains the No.1 T20I batter in the ICC rankings, now with 931 rating points - the highest ever achieved in the history of the format.

Abhishek Sharma has made a dream start to his T20I career, piling up 849 runs in just 15 months since his 2024 debut. Scoring at an incredible strike rate of nearly 200, he has set the standard for what teams want from their openers. With two centuries already to his name and a standout Asia Cup campaign, Abhishek has firmly established himself among the finest modern T20 batters.

With 931 rating points, Abhishek Sharma has broken the all-time record for the highest ICC T20I ranking. He surpasses the previous best of 919 set by England’s Dawid Malan in 2020. The young opener also moves ahead of former Indian No.1 batters Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Virat Kohli (909).

Abhishek continues to lead the rankings ahead of Phil Salt in second place, while Tilak Varma’s match-winning knock in the final keeps him steady at No.3. Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka also climbs to fifth spot after a brilliant Asia Cup campaign that included a stunning century against India.

Hardik Pandya has slipped from the No.1 all-rounder spot

Varun Chakravarthy continues to lead the ICC T20I bowling rankings, but the big surprise comes in the all-rounder chart. Hardik Pandya has lost his No.1 spot to Pakistan’s Saim Ayub. Interestingly, while Ayub impressed with the ball during the tournament, his batting form was disastrous — he managed just 37 runs in seven innings, including four ducks.

After his explosive run in T20 cricket, both domestically and internationally, Abhishek Sharma is now being considered for India’s ODI squad. He could be drafted in as a backup option to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill at the top of the order.
