Nepal Creates History with First Series Win vs ICC Full Member

Rohit Paudel Guides Nepal to Historic T20I Series Triumph Against West Indies.

Rohit Paudel-led Nepal created history on Monday by clinching their first-ever T20I series win against an ICC Full Member nation. Nepal sealed the series 2-0 with a massive 90-run victory over West Indies in the second T20I at Sharjah Cricket Ground. Chasing 174, Akeal Hosein’s West Indies were bundled out for just 83 runs as the Nepal bowlers dominated the Caribbean lineup.

For Nepal, Mohammad Aadil Alam starred with four wickets, while Kushal Bhurtel added three crucial scalps. West Indies batters failed to put up any resistance, with only Jason Holder’s 21 off 15 balls helping them stretch the innings to 17.1 overs.

West Indies’ 83 is now the lowest total by a Full Member nation against an Associate team in men’s T20Is. The previous record belonged to England, who were bowled out for 88 against the Netherlands in the 2014 T20 World Cup.

Nepal’s 90-run triumph also set a new record for the biggest victory margin by an Associate nation against a Full Member team, breaking Afghanistan’s previous mark of an 81-run win over Zimbabwe in 2016.

Batting first after winning the toss, Nepal posted 173/6 in 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh top-scored with a fluent 68 off 47 balls, while Sundeep Jora provided strong support with a quickfire 63 off 39 deliveries, smashing three fours and five sixes.

Reactions from the Two Captains After the Match

After the victory, Nepal captain Rohit Paudel expressed his delight with his team’s performance, saying it was the perfect start to their T20 World Cup qualifiers, with hopes to secure a spot in the tournament scheduled in India and Sri Lanka early next year.

We are overjoyed,” Paudel said at the post-match presentation. “Winning a game against a Test-playing nation is tough, and to clinch the series just two days later makes it even more special. Aasif and Jora played crucial roles, with Jora’s aggressive batting supporting Aasif. Today, our bowling, especially in the powerplay, showed significant improvement.

Paudel Hails Team Effort as Nepal Eyes World Cup Qualification

There’s a lot of attention on Nepal now, and we aim to keep it going by playing more series against Test-playing nations,” Paudel added. “Our goal is to finish the series strongly. If we start well again, we can carry this momentum into the qualifiers and secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

Meanwhile, West Indies captain Akeal Hosein praised Nepal, saying they caught his team off-guard, and their impressive performance came as no surprise.

Playing against a team that has been together for only 4–5 years is always challenging. You have to bring your best cricket,” Hosein said. “When West Indies face Nepal, many expect an easy win, but it’s not about names or past records - it’s about adapting to conditions and how you execute on the field.
