Abhishek Sharma Breaks Virat Kohli Record, Equals Rohit Sharma
Abhishek Sharma, the tournament’s leading run-scorer, became the first player to cross 300 runs in a single T20 Asia Cup edition.
Abhishek Sharma continued his dream run in the Asia Cup 2025 by scoring his third straight fifty in the Super Four stage. He has clearly been India’s most reliable batter, standing out with his consistency compared to the rest of the line-up. Against Sri Lanka on Friday, the left-hander played a blistering knock of 61 runs off just 31 balls, smashing bowlers all over the ground with a strike rate close to 200.
The explosive opener once again powered India to a fiery start, scoring 71/1 in the powerplay to set up a big total. He hammered 8 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 196.77 before being dismissed by Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka in the 9th over.
Abhishek’s knock turned out to be historic as he scripted multiple records. Leading the run charts in the tournament, he became the first batter to cross the 300-run mark in a T20 Asia Cup edition. He also surpassed Mohammad Rizwan to become the highest run-scorer in a single edition of the tournament. For India, Virat Kohli previously held this record with 276 runs in the 2022 edition.
