Varun Chakaravarthy is the new World No.1 in T20I
Varun Chakaravarthy creates history as the third Indian bowler to top the ICC T20I rankings.
Varun Chakaravarthy climbed to the World No.1 spot in the ICC T20I bowling rankings on Wednesday, just days after his match-winning spell against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 at Dubai International Stadium. With this achievement, the 34-year-old became only the third Indian bowler to reach the top, following Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi. Known as a mystery spinner, Chakaravarthy has been outstanding in the tournament so far, producing figures of 1/4 in 2 overs against the UAE and 1/24 in 4 overs against Pakistan.
Earlier this year, Chakaravarthy climbed to No.2 in the T20I rankings, and has now gone one step further by dethroning New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy, who held the top spot since March.
