Rohit and Kohli Shine on Comeback with Match-Winning Centuries
Indian batting stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli marked their comeback in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by scoring impressive centuries on Wednesday.
Indian cricket stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made a dream return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy by scoring commanding centuries on Wednesday. Playing his first match in the tournament after seven years, Rohit smashed a brilliant 155 off just 94 balls, guiding Mumbai to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Sikkim in their Elite Group C clash in Jaipur. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, appearing in the competition for the first time since the 2010–11 season, reached his hundred in only 83 balls for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh in the Elite Group D match.
Rohit Sharma was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ after his outstanding knock helped Mumbai comfortably chase a modest target of 237 in just 30.3 overs. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli played a leading role in Delhi’s chase of 299 runs against the Andhra Pradesh team, captained by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Kohli Enters Elite 16,000-Run Club in List A Cricket
During his innings on Wednesday, Virat Kohli crossed the landmark of 16,000 runs in List A cricket. With this achievement, he became only the second Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the milestone. At 37, Kohli is now the ninth player in world cricket to achieve this feat, placing him alongside legends such as Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Sir Vivian Richards, and other greats.
Virat Kohli last featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2010–11 season, when he led Delhi as captain. Although he later played in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in 2013–14, he had stayed away from the Vijay Hazare Trophy for almost a decade before making this return. Fans were eagerly waiting for his comeback, and his performance provided a perfect start to Delhi’s campaign.
Elsewhere in Ahmedabad, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan grabbed attention with a stunning performance, smashing a 33-ball century for Jharkhand against Karnataka to strengthen his case for a return to India’s ODI squad. His explosive hundred became the second-fastest by an Indian in List A cricket, just one ball slower than the record 32-ball century scored by Bihar captain Sakibul Gani against Arunachal Pradesh earlier on the same day.
