India plans to Ban Mohsin Naqvi from World Cricket

BCCI is planning to ban Mohsin Naqvi from world cricket following the Asia Cup controversy and his on-field drama.

The Asia Cup 2025 controversy doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. After India’s win over Pakistan in the final, ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi reportedly refused to release the trophy to India. According to PTI, the trophy is still kept at the ACC headquarters, and the PCB chief has ordered that it shouldn’t be moved or handed over without his personal permission.

The BCCI has decided to raise concerns about Mohsin Naqvi’s behavior with the ICC. As per PTI, the board is planning to seek disciplinary action against Naqvi and may even push for his removal from the ICC Board of Directors. Earlier, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia made it clear that the Asia Cup trophy isn’t Naqvi’s personal property and urged him to hand it over to India without delay.

It’s still uncertain what long-term consequences the PCB or Mohsin Naqvi might face,” a source told PTI. “But the BCCI is firm that Naqvi had no authority to personally present the trophy to the Indian team or deny sending it to the BCCI, which was the official host of the tournament.

Naqvi Defies Protocol, Holds Trophy in Dubai

The eight-team Asia Cup 2025 ended on September 28, but not without controversy. Suryakumar Yadav’s Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister. The post-match ceremony was delayed for nearly an hour, and eventually, it was cut short as neither India nor Naqvi agreed to compromise on their positions.

India and Pakistan faced each other three times in the Asia Cup 2025, marking the first on-field clash since the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The tournament was overshadowed by tensions and hostilities between the two teams throughout.

The first controversy erupted on September 14, when Suryakumar Yadav’s team refused to shake hands with their long-time rivals, Pakistan. This sparked politically charged gestures from Pakistani players during the Super 4s match. Haris Rauf also got into a heated verbal clash with Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill.

Mohsin Naqvi’s political statements

Mohsin Naqvi neglected his duties as ACC chairman by repeatedly making political statements against India on social media. After the Asia Cup ended, an ACC meeting turned tense, with heated exchanges between Naqvi and BCCI officials like Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar.

At first, Naqvi refused to congratulate India on winning the Asia Cup but eventually did so after Ashish Shelar urged him. He avoided discussing the trophy issue, and even when Shelar and Rajeev Shukla raised it, Naqvi kept deflecting the conversation.

As per protocol, the Asia Cup trophy should have already been sent to the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. However, Naqvi insists that if India wants it, captain Suryakumar Yadav must personally travel to Dubai to collect it from him.
