Left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has spoken out after being left out of India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad. Jaiswal said that selection decisions are in the hands of the selectors, and all he can do is keep working hard and focus on things within his control. When chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the squad for the eight-team tournament, many fans and experts expressed surprise at Jaiswal’s exclusion, given his reputation as one of the most promising young batters in Indian cricket.

Shubman Gill returned to the squad and was named vice-captain. His inclusion also pushed Sanju Samson down the batting order. However, many fans expressed disappointment over the exclusions of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer.

Impressive Stats and Achievements

So far, Jaiswal has featured in 23 T20Is for India, scoring 723 runs at an impressive average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.31. In IPL 2025, the left-handed opener also delivered a solid performance, amassing 559 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 159.71.

“I don’t think too much about it. Selection is completely in the hands of the selectors, and they take decisions based on the team combination. All I can do is give my best,” Jaiswal told Mashable India.

He further added, “When my time comes, everything will fall into place. For now, I just want to focus on myself and continue working hard.”

"Yashasvi, who has now established himself as India’s regular Test opener, said that self-belief has always been his strength. He mentioned that he always trusted his abilities and was confident he would succeed at the international level.

“I always believed that I would achieve something big. I will never stop pushing myself and will continue working hard,” Jaiswal said.

He also recalled the emotional moment of scoring a century in front of his parents during the England tour, calling it one of the most special moments of his career.

Dreams and Upcoming Challenges

Sharing his biggest ambition, Jaiswal added, “My ultimate dream is to help India win the World Cup. The T20 World Cup triumph in 2024 was very special for me, and the grand welcome we received back home made it even more memorable.”

Jaiswal’s next assignment will be the two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
