Big setback for Afghanistan

Afghanistan have suffered a setback as pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has been ruled out of the T20 Asia Cup 2025 due to injury. In his place, young fast bowler Abdullah Ahmadzai, who was in the reserves and recently made his international debut, has been added to the main squad.

Naveen was part of Afghanistan’s Asia Cup squad but missed the opening match due to fitness issues. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has now confirmed that he is still recovering from a shoulder injury and has not been cleared by the medical team to play in the rest of the tournament.

In an official statement on Monday (September 15), the ACB wished Naveen-ul-Haq a quick recovery and also sent best wishes to Abdullah Ahmadzai for the upcoming matches.

Afghanistan kicked off their Asia Cup campaign in style with a massive 94-run victory over Hong Kong in their Group B clash at the Abu Dhabi Stadium. Half-centuries from Sediqullah Atal and Azmatullah Omarzai powered the team to a convincing win.
