BCCI Announces Bigger Cash Prize Than ICC for India’s Women’s World Cup-Winning Team

BCCI’s Historic ₹51 Crore Reward for World Cup Heroes

The BCCI has announced an extra cash reward for the Indian women’s team after their World Cup victory. Here’s the total amount they’ll get.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash prize of ₹51 crore for the Indian women’s team after they won their first-ever World Cup title. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. After heartbreaks in the 2005 and 2017 editions, 2025 marked a historic moment as the hosts finally lifted the trophy, delighting millions of fans at home.

The ₹51 crore reward announced by the BCCI is even greater than the prize money offered by the ICC. The global cricket body will award the World Cup winners USD 4.48 million, which is approximately ₹39.78 crore.

In a conversation with news agency ANI, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board will award ₹51 crore to the Indian women’s team to recognize and appreciate their remarkable World Cup triumph.

“Of course, we must thank Jay Shah, the ICC Chair, for his role in increasing the prize money for the ICC Women’s World Cup,” Saikia said. “Just a month before the tournament, the prize amount was raised by nearly 300 percent.”

“That prize money comes from the ICC, but after today’s brilliant performance at the DY Patil Stadium, where India defeated South Africa to win the championship, the BCCI is overjoyed,” Saikia added. “Without using any funds from the ICC, the BCCI will independently reward the Indian team with ₹51 crore. The amount will be shared among the players, selectors, and support staff led by Amol Muzumdar.”

Shafali Verma Shines with Bat and Ball, Wins Player of the Match

In the final match, India outperformed South Africa in all three departments-batting, bowling, and fielding-which proved to be the key factor behind their historic first World Cup victory.

The match started with South Africa winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. India put up a strong total of 298 runs, thanks to Shafali Verma’s brilliant 87. South African captain Laura Wolvaardt responded with a fine century, but her effort went in vain as Deepti Sharma’s five-wicket haul guided India to a commanding 52-run victory.

Shafali also contributed with two wickets, and her impressive all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
